  • Audiobook: Close Range: Wyoming Stories by Annie Proulx Buy full audiobook: Annie Proulx's masterful language and fierce love of Wyoming are evident in this collection of stories about loneliness, quick violence, and wrong kinds of love. In "The Mud Below", a rodeo rider's obsession marks the deepening fissures between his family life and self-imposed isolation. In "The Half-Skinned Steer", an elderly fool drives west to the ranch he grew up on for his brother's funeral, and dies a mile from home. In "Brokeback Mountain", the difficult affair between two cowboys survives everything but the world's violent intolerance. These are stories of desperation, hard times, and unlikely elation, set in a landscape both brutal and magnificent. Enlivened by folk tales, flights of fancy, and details of ranch and rural work, they juxtapose Wyoming's traditional character and attitudes, confrontation of tough problems, prejudice, persistence in the face of difficulty, with the more benign values of the new west. This collection includes: • "The Half-Skinned Steer", read by Bruce Greenwood • "A Lonely Coast", read by Frances Fisher • "People in Hell Just Want a Drink of Water", read by Campbell Scott • "The Mud Below", read by Bruce Greenwood • "The Blood Bay", read by Campbell Scott • "The Bunch-Grass Edge of the World", read by Frances Fisher • "Brokeback Mountain", read by Campbell Scott

  • PonyPros Tumalo Reservoire Adventure - Deep Water Crossing! Hunting season has started so PonyPros took 3 kids and ponies to a watershed area that has no shooting allowed :) We rode and walked for 5 hours! It was a VERY long day. It was the first time the kids and ponies had tackled such a steep hill or deep water crossing! We stopped half way through to eat lunch and let the ponies munch on bunch grass. On the way back, we jumped a few logs. It was the first time the kids had ever jumped out side of an arena. The ponies were awesome, except 2 of them laid down after the water crossing! It was sort of to be expected since it was the first time they had gotten that wet and we were walking through a particularly sandy patch. The kids laughed it off. It was a memorable adventure for all involved!

  • Scientific Journal Confirms Creationist Findings A Creation Challenge to the Chickens of Evolution - It is extremely unusual for creationist research to be favorably reported and referenced in a technical scientific paper by academic geologists published in a major, secular, geological journal. However, not only has this just happened, but the same paper reported experimental research that confirms the conclusions of the creationist research published in a young-earth creationist journal! Rapid Petrification of Wood: An Unexpected Confirmation of Creationist Research by Andrew A. Snelling, Ph.D. Akahane, H., T. Furuno, H. Miyajima, T. Yoshikawa, and S. Yamamoto, 2004, Rapid wood silicification in hot spring water: An explanation of silicification of wood during the Earth's history, Sedimentary Geology, vol. 169, pp. 219-228 John 17:17 "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth." Evolutionary scientists have long maintained that it takes several million years for wood to become petrified or turned to stone as in the famous "Petrified forest." In 1995 the creationist magazine Creation published research to show that wood can petrify in a relatively short time. Now a scientific journal, Sedimentary Geology, has published a new study that agrees. Japanese scientists immersed specimens of wood in hot spring water. The mineral-filled, hot water stayed at about 122o F. They noted that some pieces of wood already in the hot spring water looked very much like ancient petrified wood. They ...

  • A grassland is an area of land that mostly contains grasses Grasslands (also called greenswards) are areas where the vegetation is dominated by grasses (Poaceae) and other herbaceous (non-woody) plants (forbs). However, sedge (Cyperaceae) and rush (Juncaceae) families can also be found. Grasslands occur naturally on all continents except Antarctica. In temperate latitudes, such as northwest Europe and the Great Plains and California in North America, native grasslands are dominated by perennial bunch grass species, where as in warmer climates annual species form a greater component of the vegetation. *source wikipedia
