  • Toronto Travel: Cabbage Town Festival 2009 Trying to catch the last few rays of summer, I hopped on my bike on September 12, 2009 to see whats going on in the city. My research had revealed that the Cabbagetown Festival was on, so on a gorgeous day with brilliant blue skies I cycled down the Don Valley bike path and pushed my bike up the steep bridge onto the Riverdale Footbridge. Moments later I had arrived at Riverdale Farm which was buzzing with people. In addition to the regular visitors to this urban farm there were thousands of other visitors who were here to enjoy the Cabbagetown Festival. Children were participating in various games such as a sunflower seed spitting contest while some time later a country music band was making the young ones dance. Officially called the Cabbagetown Arts & Craft Sale and Riverdale Farm Fair, this festival has been going for more than 20 years. In Riverdale Park I strolled past dozens of vending booths that were selling all sorts of art and crafts, from paintings to pottery to fine hand-made jewelry and fabric art to hand-made soaps and many other creative products. The entire Cabbagetown neighbourhood had essentially become a big street sale because local residents were also holding garage sales on their front lawns. Vendor booths and live music were set up on Parliament, the major north-south thoroughfare which had been turned into a pedestrian zone. The entire neighbourhood was abuzz was visitors from near and far. During the mid-afternoon I happened to come across a ...
  • Toronto Travel: Toronto Biking Tour - Cabbagetown - Sumach Street This video clip was taken during my biking tour on July 7, 2007. I rode from Toronto's east end through Riverdale, stopped for a brief visit at Riverdale Farm and the adjacent Necropolis, then continued on through picturesque Cabbagetown, past Yonge Street on to Queens Park and the University of Toronto campus. I had a little lunch on Baldwin Street, a really cool street with lots of different ethnic restaurants, and then cycled on towards the Rogers Centre, Toronto's baseball stadium with the retractable roof, and the Harbourfront entertainment area and then back home through the Beaches. The clips from this biking trip are part of my "Toronto Favourites" series and many more of these discoveries are to come. I am actually a travel writer, and whenever I am not out of town, I write about the city that I live in: Toronto, a city that has many cool places. I love to get out and explore the city and discover some new cool spots, and now you can enjoy them with me. Feel free to check out some of my 700+ articles and interviews on http//. • Cabbagetown Real Estate... Atlanta Modern Living... Atlanta Real Estate View all FMLS Listings in Cabbagetown Lately, Cabbagetown is an area of tremendous growth sparked by an influx of artists in the 1980s, including Panorama Ray who operated a photo gallery on the main drag, Carroll Street. Since his death in 1997, Carroll Street has become the home of some nice restaurants and makes a great people-watching spot. Beginning in 1996, the mill itself has been renovated into the nation's largest residential loft community — the Fulton Cotton Mill Lofts — which houses everyone from artists and musicians to business professionals. In April 1999 a 5-alarm fire severely damaged the east building which was still being renovated and several nearby homes were destroyed. The lofts nevertheless opened the following year. However, a tornado in March 2008 damaged parts of the loft complex and many of the historic homes and businesses in Cabbagetown. The neighborhood's main festival is the Cabbagetown Reunion, known colloquially by long time residents and displaced residents as "the vegetable", which takes place in the summer. The Chomp and Stomp bluegrass and chili festival takes place in November. - created at Cabbagetown Specialist Contact Mitchell 678-575-5367 Keller Williams Realty
