  • West Seattle Garden Tour 2009 West Seattle Garden Tour 2009 - Home for a Tortoise to Roam- The Shattuck Garden Welcome to Mr. Ts residence- he awaits you in the back. Meandering from front to back, we first notice the hot and dry parking strip crammed with Gaura and Miscanthus (Zebrinus and Rigoletto). As you enter the cozy front garden, you realize that the owners favorite colors are black, green and orange. The owner, who has a drought-tolerant-low-maintenance approach to gardening, chose daylilies, crocosmia, trumpet vine, Hebes (Mrs. Winder) and Flax (Little Surfer). Grasses, perennial shrubs, lavender, Threadgold Cypress, Agastache and a saxifrage-topped lantern round out the area in front of the house. The innovative owner transformed an old telephone pole into a border along the shared driveway, laid the brick pathway and covered the gas line with a sedge-filled planter. The trumpet vine-covered gate offers an old seahorse knocker as a handle, and an Evergreen Clematis lords itself along the fence. Arriving in Mr. Ts realm we learn that the backyard was designed for his benefit. Mr. T is a 90-lb tortoise who snacks on grass, eats Timothy hay and tramples anything in his path. The narrow space between the patio and a planter is Mr. Ts speedway; his corral lies next to the house. Raised beds allow the owner and tortoise to have "rooms of their own." This gardener plants what she likes, but leans towards a "faint Asian sensibility." Japanese maples, Osakazuki and Shin Deshojo, flourish. The hops ...

  • Dana Ruh - Opuntia [BQD013] CROCOSMIA X sees Dana Ruh engaging with the sound of House. RAMARIA FLAVA initiates a desperate groovy beat with clear and energetic vocals that open us out into peaktime. The track was made for us to dance! OPUNTIA the bloomy Intro of this EP comes with the voice of the artist Yorba. Calm and serene she tells us about her passion for rythm and sound while cumulatively the floor of funky house beats expands. The continuiation we find on the B-side is deep, dubby and clear. The beat wriggles around the hookline and here we have the track DEL SUR. The sound of an organ goes ahead with different voices.
