  • Seborrheic Dermatitis Treatment and Dandruff Treatment Dr. James L. Campbell Jr., MD discusses Seborrheic Dermatitis Treatment and Dandruff Treatment. See more at PLEASE RATE AND COMMENT!!! Mild to moderate facial seborrheic dermatitis may respond well to topical antifungal creams or gels (Loprox) applied daily. Daily facial washing with antidandruff shampoo or soaps containing zinc pyrithione or selenium sulfide is also effective. Group VI or VII topical steroid creams or lotions applied bid for several days may be required periodically for control. Off-label use of Protopic 0.1% ointment or Elidel 1% cream applied daily are effective long-term alternatives to topical steroids. Mild to moderate scalp involvement is best managed with frequent and extended shampooing with antidandruff shampoos. Effective formulations may contain ketoconazole coal tar, salicylic acid, selenium sulfide, zinc pyrithione, or sulfur. Dense, thick, adherent scale is removed by applying warm mineral or olive oil to the scalp and washing several hours later. At bedtime apply 10% liquor carbonis detergens (LCD) in Nivea oil or Derma-Smoothe FS lotion (peanut oil, mineral oil, fluocinolone acetonide 0.01%) to the scalp and wash out in the morning. Wetting the scalp prior to application and using a shower cap will help penetration. Blepharitis may be suppressed by lid massage and frequent washing with zinc- or tar-containing antidandruff shampoos. Severe cases may require oral antifungal therapy to eradicate Pityrosporum ovale. Antifungal ...
  • Perioral Dermatitis Information Dr. Thomas P. Habif, MD discusses Perioral Dermatitis Information. See more at PLEASE RATE AND COMMENT!!! Perioral dermatitis is a distinctive eruption that occurs in young women and resembles acne. The eruption is confined to the nasolabial folds and spares a clear zone around the vermilion border. Papules and pustules on an erythematous base is the most common presentation. There are varying degrees of involvement. This patient has involvement of the entire perioral area. This patient presents with just a few papules. This limited eruption is the most common presentation. Scaling is seen in some cases. Scaling may occur as part of the disease or be induced by drying and irritating topical treatment. The chin is the most sensitive part of the face and does not tolerate drying therapy as well as the forehead and cheeks. Topical preparations such as benzoyl peroxide, tretinoin, and alcohol-based antibiotic lotions aggravate the eruption. Pustules on the cheeks adjacent to the nostrils are highly characteristic. Pustules next to the nose are sometimes the only manifestation of the disease. Pustules and papules may also be seen lateral to the eyes and sometimes this is the only manifestation of the disease. Patients with lateral eye involvement think they have acne, rosacea or contact dermatitis. The duration of perioral dermatitis is unpredictable. Some patients respond to oral antibiotics and never have another episode. Others have recurrent disease for ...

  • Perioral Dermatitis cases Dr. Thomas P. Habif, MD discusses Perioral Dermatitis cases. See more at PLEASE RATE AND COMMENT!!! This is a typical case of perioral dermatitis. There are pinpoint papules on a red base. Papules are symmetrically distributed around the mouth and involve the nasolabial folds. Papular pustular acne has a similar appearance. The papules are larger and there is little erythema. Small scars are present on the right chin. Lesions are frequently asymmetrically distributed in perioral dermatitis. Here tiny papules are concentrated on the left chin and appear eczematous. Involvement of the nasolabial folds and area adjacent to the left nostril help support the diagnosis of perioral dermatitis. Here erythema, papules and pustules extend from the nostrils onto the nasolabial folds and the upper lip. The chin and lateral eyes are sparred. This patient had only a few papules that responded to a two week course of doxycycline 100 mg once each day. Attempts at self treatment with over the counter benzoyl peroxide caused irritation with erythema and some scale. This sensitive area does not tolerate drying therapy. A group 6 topical steroid applied twice each day for 5 days cleared the erythema. The pustules cleared with oral antibiotics. Diffuse erythema and pustules cleared following a two week course of tetracycline 500 mg twice each day. There had been no attempts at self treatment. A few pustules were confined to the area adjacent to the nostrils. The eruption had ...

  • Facial Seborrheic Dermatitis - What It Looks Like!! Get more YouTube subscribers + likes Fast and FREE (legit): bit.ly Facial Seborrheic Dermatitis, commonly known as "facial dandruff," is not a rare occurrence in today's society. It is more common among men than women, mostly randomly appearing after puberty has passed. It is genetic, so you will probably pass this on to your descendants (and received it from an ancestor). It stings, it burns, and is a yeast infection mostly in the face and eyebrows. Why? Because it can, that's all I know from research. This first happened to me about a month and a half ago, my face started getting red, then itchy, then flaky (worse than a snow storm!). Now it's all three, it's not a fun time to deal with, it lowers my morale at work (people keep pointing it out) and it just plain hurts!! I saw my dermatologist and he didn't seem very helpful about it at first, but a second call gave me reaffirming knowledge about the topic. I researched it a little and now I know a great Over The Counter (OTC) remedy!! * Wash with Head and Shoulders daily (Equate "dandruff shampoo" OK) * Rub Ketoconazole 1% OTC (Equate Hydrocortisone OK) after shower (optional, has steroids) * Rub Aloe Vera 100% gel daily ("Fruit of the Earth" OK) INSTEAD OF HYDRO CORTISONE * Optional: Rub Cocoa Butter daily ("Woltra Stik" OK) Source:

  • Flea bite allergy dermatitis. Possible source for Morgellons Disease. On exactly July 4th 2010, I recieved my first flea bite ever in my life. It began with one single bite on my my ankle. As the month of July progressed, the flea bites increased exponentially in amount, and distance up my body. I have over 40 bites on my legs alone. I have 10 on my arms. I have several on my back. I even have three on my neck. There is almost nothing you can do to stop this from happening. Deepwoods OFF, does nothing to prevent it. The flea will just stay on you until the bad taste goes away. Outdoor pesticide doesnt kill them immediatley, allowing time for the colony to spread. This parasite literally falls out of the sky and onto your property off of a bird, or a leaf in the wind. Once it finds a new host and feeds on blood, eggs can now be layed and an infestation begins. You will not find the source of this infestation. You will not find any eggs. You will not find any nesting beds, bug excrement. You wont see flea larvae. YOU WILL NOT FEEL THE BITES. YOU WILL NOT FEEL ANYTHING WHATSOEVER. Until its all too late, and you look like a shotgun victim. I have called the exterminator, i have used pesticides, i have ripped out carpets, threw away couches, bleached everything, even bought new wardrobes. You will not get rid of them, with out controlled burning of the entire surrounding area. The only relief from the terrible crawling sensation, is to take extremely hot showers. Excruciatingly hot water that you can only bare to touch for a fraction of a ...

  • Dermatitis Herpetiformis Dr. Wendy Levinbook, MD discusses Dermatitis Herpetiformis. See more at PLEASE RATE AND COMMENT!!! Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) may occur at any age but patients typically present in the 2nd to 4th decades of life. It is twice as common in males. Most patients have an associated asymptomatic gluten sensitive enteropathy that may be demonstrated by small bowel biopsy. Clinically, patients present with single or grouped vesicles, papules, or urticarial plaques. Lesions are typically distributed symmetrically on extensor surfaces with involvement of the elbows, knees, buttocks, shoulders, and sacral areas most commonly. Many also have involvement of the scalp, posterior nuchal area, face, and facial hairline. Mucous membranes are typically spared. Patients usually experience severe burning and itching. These symptoms often precede the appearance of skin lesions by 8 to 12 hours. In addition, signs and symptoms such as steatorrhea, abnormal D-xylose absorption, iron or folate deficiency anemia due to malabsorption, achlorhydira, atrophic gastritis, and pernicious anemia as a result of gluten sensitive enteropathy may occur. On electron microscopic exam, blister formation is in the lamina lucida. Histopathologic exam is characterized by collections of neutrophils in the dermal papillae forming microabscesses. Eosinophils and dermal edema leading to subepidermal separation are also typically present. Direct immunofluorescence of normal appearing or perilesional ...
  • Scale Rot - necrotising dermatitis *UPDATE*: Unfortunately Jasmine (The Retic featured) never made it and died on May 1st 2009. RIP ----- a short video shot at my friends, Jen & Andy's, they run a rescue based here in Scotland and asked me to video them treating a very severe case of Scale-Rot to show you guys, the following was written by Jen to go alongside the video: Scale rot - Kayuadi Retic - Jasmine Blister disease is a common condition in reptiles due to poor environmental management that is, housing the reptile in overly-moist or dirty surroundings. It is also known as vesicular dermatitis, necrotizing dermatitis or scale rot. This is because the animal is forced to lie on a damp substrate, often saturated with urine, faeces or rotting food and not surprisingly, the skin becomes infected and effectively rots. The first signs are usually watery blisters on the reptiles skin. These blisters then burst and transfer the infection into the reptiles body, leading to septicemia, an infection of the blood which is potentially fatal, as well as infection in the internal organs. In addition, the skin around the initial blister may rot away leaving the body exposed and even more vulnerable to other bacterial and fungal invasions as well as injuries, abrasions and burns. Mites can also spread bacteria to the blisters and in some cases, bacteria can cause abscesses at the site of the blisters which recur as ulcers following the next shed. This cycle continues until the snake eventualy dies. source for above ...

  • Seborrheic Dermatitis.wmv Seborrheic Dermatitis: Me and my twin sister had this condition. It started in high school. We would use barbie pins to scrap the scales off. Guess what, I don't have it any more. My dermatogist prescribed Derma-Smoothe/FS which worked for a bit - removed the scales and inflammation. Then it stopped working months later - it removed the inflammation but not the scales. THEN, I began to oil my scalp with virgin olive oil. Before I wash my hair, I de-scale my scalp, then I wash my hair, then I oil my scalp with VOO using a color applicator bottle, and massage it in for 5 minutes. I oil my scalp also between wash days every night (I wash hair every 3 days) I also switch out the oil I use every month. I have 4 oils I use in my routine. VOO, Coconut Oil, Almond Oil, and Shea butter - so my scalp does not get immune. I have not had Psoriasis for over 1 year now.

  • Dermatitis Herpetiformis Treatment Dr. Wendy Levinbook, MD discusses Dermatitis Herpetiformis Treatment. See more at PLEASE RATE AND COMMENT!!! Treatment with sulfones such as dapsone or sulfapyridine provide dramatic relief from the symptoms of dermatitis herpetiformis within hours to a few days of treatment initiation. In fact, dramatic improvement following the administration of these medications can be used to support the diagnosis of this disorder. Both drugs control, but do not cure the disease. Dapsone is the first choice of the two as it tends to be more effective. In addition, strict adherence to a gluten-free diet for at least 6 months will improve the intestinal and the skin lesions and will allow most patients to begin a decrease in sulfone therapy. However, the diet has to be followed for many months (often 2 years) before medications can be discontinued. Symptoms and lesions may recur in 1 to 3 weeks if a normal diet is resumed. Current evidence indicates that a gluten-free diet needs to be continued indefinitely and that it may be protective against gastrointestinal lymphomas. However, this diet is often difficult to sustain for long periods of time. An elemental diet (a diet without full proteins composed of free amino acids, carbohydrates, and small amounts of fats) may also provide significant improvement in skin disease activity, independent of gluten administration. However, similar to the gluten-free diet, an elemental diet is often difficult to maintain.
  • Perioral Dermatitis Treatment Dr. Thomas P. Habif, MD discusses Perioral Dermatitis Treatment. See more at PLEASE RATE AND COMMENT!!! Perioral dermatitis treatment Patients are advised to simplify their topical regimens. Avoid the routine use of moisturizers unless they absolutely necessary. Cosmetics should be water based or avoided. Benzoyl peroxide is not well tolerated in this sensitive area. It may cause drying and scaling. Topical steroids may be the cause and these must be stopped. Patients who have used Group V or stronger topical steroids may have to endure a 3 to 6 week recovery period. Erythema and pustules that occur soon after stopping the steroid are treated with cool wet compress. The same oral antibiotics used to treat acne such as doxycycline may be helpful during this recovery period. Mild to moderate cases of perioral dermatitis may be treated with topical antibiotics. These medications are not predictably effective. Patients may not feel that oral antibiotics are warranted for such a localized minor condition, others are anxious to clear the eruption rapidly and elect to use the more effective oral antibiotics. Use metronidazole cream (MetroCream, Noritate), sodium sulfacetamide 10% (Klaron), clindamycin lotion or erythromycin solution. Pimecrolimus cream 1% (Elidel), and tacrolimus 0.03%, 0.1% ointment (Protopic) may by helpful.
