  • Rock of Ages "Rock of Ages" is a popular Christian hymn by Reverend Augustus Montague Toplady written in 1763 and first published in The Gospel Magazine in 1775. The Rock of Ages, Burrington Combe where the Rev. Toplady is reputed to have sheltered from a storm Traditionally, it is held that Rev. Toplady drew his inspiration from an incident in the gorge of Burrington Combe in the Mendip Hills in England. Toplady, a preacher in the nearby village of Blagdon, was travelling along the gorge when he was caught in a storm. Finding shelter in a gap in the gorge, he was struck by the title and scribbled down the initial lyrics on a playing card. The fissure that is believed to have sheltered Toplady is now marked as the "Rock of Ages", both on the rock itself and on some maps, and is also reflected in the name of a nearby tea shop When my eyes shall close in death" was originally written as "When my eye-strings break in death".[1] There has been speculation that, though Toplady was a Calvinist, the words, "Be of sin the double cure, Save from wrath, and make me pure," suggest that he agreed with the teachings of the Methodist preacher under whom he received his religious conversion, and of his contemporary, John Wesley, who taught the "double cure," in which a sinner is saved by the atonement of Jesus, and cleansed from inbred sin by the infilling of the Holy Spirit.[2] However, also published in some early hymnals was the line: "Be of sin the double cure, Save me from its guilt and power ...
  • Darkest Nights - Cover by Plochp Hey! this is a cover of the song Darkest Nights by As I Lay Dying. I played it on my Epiphone les paul Zakk Wylde (bullseye) and recorded it using a Digitech RP150 multi-effects pedal connected through a USB cable to my PC. The software i used for recording was Audacity (it is free) and for editing i used Sony Vegas Pro 9 (you have to pay for it). I normally use back tracks for my videos but i couldn't find one for this song so i just used the original song for this vid although i played louder than it. And last but not least i used a Flip Ultra HD camera to record the video! Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy it, don't forget to rate, comment and subscribe!!

  • CBH Winding a string loop II • Always read the accompanying technical description! More harpsichord stuff @ www.hpschd.nu Carey Beebe demonstrating winding a harpsichord string hitchpin loop. (A remake of an earlier movie, showing the process from a different angle.) The secret of a successful loop is all in the angles and the tension. To begin, the tuning hammer is hooked over a 2 or 3m length of wire running to a "break" or clamping arrangement. Both parts of the wire must be wrapped around each other in order to produce a double helix which will hold pitch. If the loose short end of the wire is able to twist around while being held with the same tension and somewhat less than 90° to the clamped long length, a double helix will automatically result. To avoid forcing a permanent twist which would make the string sound false on the instrument, perhaps only three or four turns are made before backing off. (This is particularly important with a softer wire like the Malcolm Rose red brass shown here.) The loop is continued by eye for perhaps 35mm. By changing the angle to exactly 90° and supporting the twist with the index finger, three or four close turns are intentionally wrapped around the central core to neatly terminate the winding. Finally, the loose end is twisted around in a circle to kink and break it off far more cleanly than cutters allow.
