  • Genki Phonics Lesson Demo 元気フォニックスの教え方 More at This is a brief introduction to the new Genki Phonics course. It's based on the work we've been doing in India and China to get kids literate in English, but has been redesigned for children who aren't native speakers of English. The idea is that once they have done some basic Genki English ( http ) they'll then be able to understand the words they read in this phonics course. We're still testing and developing, but what we have so far is certainly usable so please give it a try! The steps are: 1. Revision - review the previous grapheme/phonemes 2. New sound - use the Phonics Poster ( with the words the kids have learnt in previous Genki English lessons. Assign a gesture to the sound. 3. Thumbs Up - Thumbs Down. Does this word contain the sound? 4. Letter formation - on the board. 5. Blending game - kids come to the front and practice with the gestures. 6. Phonic Fingers - how many sounds in the word? 7. Sight words (I didn't cover those here as they come in later lessons) 8. Workbook ( As I say the course is still in beta stage (although still very usable as you can see) but I'll hopefully have a finished first version ready in time for the new school year. Keep an eye on my blog at Be genki, Richard

The Georgian alphabet has 33 graphemes (letters) for these 33 phonemes (sounds): one grapheme for each sound. Spelling usually coincides with pronunciation. The Georgian alphabet has its own independent place among the alphabets known to the world. The oldest known inscriptions date from the beginning of the 5th century. The writing has undergone considerable changes since then. Three stages of development may be distinguished: Mrgvlovani (V-IX cent.) Nuskhuri (IX-XI cent.) Mkhedruli (XI-until now).

For courses and resources, visit and click on a country to be directed to the correct website. The teaching staff at Holy Rosary School in Limpopo are convinced that THRASS is the best thing that has happened to English, spelling and phonics. Many children in Africa cannot read or write English, even when they reach high school age but the teachers at Holy Rosary School tell us how THRASS is helping the children to speak better English and also to read at a much younger age. THRASS is a lot of fun and it makes the children want to work harder and learn more. The children particularly love the THRASS SING-A-LONG songs and in the video we see children of all ages enthusiastically performing a selection of the songs. SING-A-LONG is described as being very motivational and it helps the children overcome the difficulties they have pronouncing the words and also helps them to spell accurately. But it's not just the children who love SING-A-LONG, the staff do too. We also see children of different ages being taught using the THRASS Picturechart and Phoneme-Grapheme Cards. What is particularly striking is that even the youngest children demonstrate an excellent understanding of phonemes and graphemes, and their spelling is excellent. For courses and resources, visit and click on a country to be directed to the correct website. Rhodes Hotel in Nyanga is the venue for the second THRASS SING-A-LONG workshop but first there is a visit to two local schools Zuvarabuda and Mount Melleray, so that Alan and Hilary Davies, and local education officers can see how the teachers have been getting on with help from the Solon Foundation. At Zuvarabuda Primary school we see children singing 'Ring the bell' and then working with their Picturecharts to identify the graphemes and words that they have encountered in the song. Their teacher tells us how much she likes teaching THRASS and how exciting she thinks it is; everyone in the school likes it. She received her initial THRASS training at a two-day workshop funded by the Solon Foundation where she received the SING-A-LONG CDs and DVD, and the THRASS Picturecharts and grapheme charts to use in her school. She particularly likes singing the songs and dancing, and so do the pupils. The head teacher at Zuvarabuda Primary School tells us that until THRASS was introduced the children couldn't read but now they can and they are very interested in THRASS. The teachers are learning by attending demonstration lessons which they then discuss so that they can improve. As far as the future is concerned, he wants to see if the ...

So much of what he is saying is in an avoidance of wanting to state anything too strongly, for it may be taken as dogmatic. Like a broken grapheme, like the bottom half of a word. The broken grapheme is not a word but one may be able to derive from the "scratches" a contextual sense, hence finding the word. Yet the scratches without a deduction are not able to be spoken. Corey seems to refuse to think that another form of language, (another form of life, which is never the less human) may not be time bound, may not be inheritable. Hierarchies are found and bounded to and the result of embedded and recursive elements of language. So am I denying that I have or experience and environment or that I live in an atmosphere? Am I separate from the cosmos? from one distinctive vantage point , yes. from another no. To understand what is 'driven as as a fact or as a truth' i have to say that I understand systems without being bound to systemic considerations or an acceptance of what the limits are of the exteriority of any signified, This is to say that what ever that is signified carries an already embedded notion of what is interior to it and exterior to it. And the categorization of this carried over ness is what is in question. The interiority and exteriority ...
