  • LORD Of Mercy And Of Might - St. Bride's Church Me playing a great hymn from the Church of Scotland Second-Edition Hymnary. For some reason, it wasn't included in the third- or fourth-editions. Lord of mercy and of might, Of mankind the Life and Light, Maker, Teacher, Infinite; Jesus, hear and save! Strong Creator, Savior mild, Humbled to a mortal child, Captive, beaten, bound, reviled; Jesus, hear and save! Throned above celestial things, Borne aloft on angels wings, Lord of lords and King of kings; Jesus, hear and save! Soon to come to earth again, Judge of angels and of men, Hear us now, and hear us then; Jesus, hear and save!
  • Pilgrim, Seek Not Yet Repose (Hymn) This is sung by a family at our church - song #243 in The Christian Hymnary
  • Now Thank We All Our God; arr. John Rutter This hymn is such a wonderful reminder for all of us, and doesn't need to be confined just to November. It is particularly special to me, because this arrangement was my wedding hymn and processional (I entered on the last verse), so now I have double reason to be thankful whenever I hear it! Only a very good and wise God would ever have brought me to this place of safety and salvation in Him through Jesus Christ, and to this joy in my family. The recording is (C) 1993, from the album, "Te Deum and Other Church Music" (Collegium), performed by The Cambridge Singers and the City of London Sinfonia, conducted by John Rutter. The hymn itself is public domain; Rutter composed this arrangement. • Tis the Day of Resurrection (2010) Video by A. Hudz St. Elias Church (Ukrainian Catholic--Eparchy of Toronto), Brampton, ON Canada. Lots of fun singing this one. I regret we only have the last few lines--perhaps next year. Tis the Day of Resurrection Greek Title: Άναστάσεως ήμέρα Author:St. John of Damascus Translator:JM Neale Tis the Day of Resurrection: Earth! tell it out abroad! The Passover of gladness! The Passover of GOD! From Death to Life Eternal,— From this world to the sky, Our CHRIST hath brought us over, With hymns of victory. Our hearts be pure from evil, That we may see aright The LORD in rays eternal Of Resurrection-Light: And, listening to His accents, May hear, so calm and plain, His own—All Hail!—and hearing, May raise the victor strain! Now let the Heavns be joyful! Let earth her song begin! Let the round world keep triumph, And all that is therein: Invisible and visible Their notes let all things blend,— For CHRIST the LORD hath risen,— Our joy that hath no end. Hymns of the Eastern Church, 1866 This text also comes from John's first ode of the "Golden Canon," recognized as his finest work and written around 750. It was traditionally sung at midnight on Easter with the lighting of candles. John M. Neale's (PHH 342) rather free English translation was published in his Hymns of the Eastern Church (1862). The first stanza uses the Old Testament Passover story as a metaphor for Christ's resurrection (as is customary in all the first odes of a Greek canon ...

  • Be Thou My Vision (w-lyrics) EDEN'S BRIDGE From Eden's Bridge album: Celtic Reflections On Hymns, (C) 1999 StraightWay Music [they did an excellent job with this... pure and beautiful] Our latest worship () using impressionist painting as a backdrop. Nothing profound in the visual effects used (so as to not take away from the song), but a wonderful hymn performed in a celtic form that speaks to its origins, which I am sharing below from wikipedia: History: The original Old Irish text, "Rop tú mo Baile" is often attributed to Dallan Forgaill in the 6th century. The text had been a part of Irish monastic tradition for centuries before its setting to the tune, therefore, before it became an actual hymn[citation needed]. It was translated from Old Irish into English by Mary E. Byrne, MA, in Ériu (the journal of the School of Irish Learning), in 1905. The English text was first versified by Eleanor H. Hull, in 1912, and is now the most common text use. The music is the Irish folk song, Slane, which is about Slane Hill where in AD 433 St. Patrick defied the pagan High King Lóegaire of Tara by lighting candles on Easter Eve. Besides this general connection to Christianity, the folk song has little prior connection to the text. The two were first combined by Welsh composer David Evans in the 1927 edition of the Church of Scotland's Church Hymnary.
  • Just as I am ~ Part 1.AVI This is the story or I should say struggle that the writer of this song had before coming to know Christ... I have felt the same struggle in my life in result that I may go away rejoicing such as she... Charlotte Elliott's Words' 1835 first appeared in "The Christian Remembrancer, whose editor Elliot became in 1836. The last verse is from Elliott's Hours of Sorrow Cheered and Comforted; 1836 The Music of Just as I am; was of Woodworth, William B. Bradbury, in the Mendelssohn Collection, or Third Book of Psalmody (New York: 1849) About these words, her brother Kev. HV Elliott said: " In the course of a long ministry, I hope I have been permitted to see some of the fruit of my labor, but I feel that far more has been done by a single hymn of my sister's" On two other occasions, this song was produced in hymnal format; Misericordia, Henry T. Smart; 1875, & Saffron Walden, Arthur H. Brown; 1890, and Now I create my own version in song of Just As I Am (without one plea) Wahooo & Halluluyaah Wooeee! Charlotte Elliot wrote this song about how to find salvation through Christ. It has been used by many as the call to the altar at the close of services, as it brings a quiet simple message of sin, forgiveness, and salvation to all that turn from sin and trust in Jesus. Also John Brownlie described the hymn story in his book "Hymns and Hymn Writers of the Church Hymnary" I didn't realize the depth of this song.... As ya read all the stanzes it opened my eyes to why I did not come to ...
  • O God, Do Thou Sustain Me - Anabaptist Martyr Hymn An anabaptist hymn of prayer for strength and protection, written by Leonhart Sommer, who died in prison, December 1573, because of his belief. Song taken from the Christian Hymnary. ******* O God, do Thou sustain me, In grief and sore duress Pride counter which disdains Thee And comfort my distress. O Lord let me find mercy In bonds and prison bed Men would seek to devour me With guile and controversy Save me from danger dread! Thou wilt never forsake me This firmly I believe Thy blood Thou hast shed freely And with it washed me. Therein my trust is resting In Christ, God's only Son On him I am now building In tribulation trusting God will me not disown! To die and to be living Until my end I see To Thee my trust I'm giving Thou wilt my helper be Soul, body, child companion Herewith commit I Thee Come soon, Lord, come and take me From ruthless men do save me Be honour ever to Thee. Amen.

  • Forest Green - A RealTime Duet Howdy All, I was practicing for some Carols from a hymn book for tomorrow. I decided to film a 'RealTime Duet' (as opposed to a 'Virtual Duet' or a 'Split Screen Effect Duet'). This is from page 240 of the Australian Hymn Book in the Key of 'F'. FOREST GREEN is an English folk tune associated with the ballad "The Ploughboy's Dream." Ralph Vaughan Williams (PHH 316) turned FOREST GREEN into a hymn tune for The English Hymnal (1906), using it as a setting for "O Little Town of Bethlehem." "It's quite a different concept but I hope you enjoy the tune!" December, 2009
