  • MARK LOVETT AMERICAN PAINTER Swingin Amiss BLUES Born and raised in Maryland, Mark began playing guitar and singing professionally at the age of 14 and continued doing so into his thirties. His passion for visual arts did not take root until early mid-life, when he discovered his interest in visual arts. After struggling for years with alcohol and drugs, Mark discovered that his passion for art helped the healing process in recovery, which led to a spiritual connection to every painting he creates. While Mark's music can still be heard on his website or in infrequent live performances, his band and Vintage Guitar business became avocations, while art became his vocation and passion. Mark, a graduate of the University of Maryland, studied figurative and portrait painting at Nelson Shanks' Studio Incamminati in Pennsylvania, The Art League School in Alexandria, VA., and he attended several master artist workshops throughout the country, honing his skills depicting human form and painting live models regularly. Mark loves the old masters, and has spent a great deal of time studying their work at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence Italy. In addition to viewing the paintings carefully in person, Mark photographed the paintings on display in these galleries and maintains a high res photo gallery of all his favorite master's work on his computer for reference. Mark studied Bouguereau, Sargent, Zorn, Tissot, Harlamoff, Andreotti ...

Julia Hamari (1942- ) was born in Budapest, Hungary. She is one of the leading oratorio and Lieder performers of her generation, known for her musicality and rich, full tone. She is particularly admired for her Bach performances and has taken the alto part in almost 30 of Rilling's recordings of the complete Bach cantata. She first studied voice with Fatime Martins and Jeno Sipos, continuing her studies at the Budapest Academy of Music. In 1954, she won the Erkel competition and studied for several years at the Stuttgart Hochschule für Musik. Her concert debut was in 1966 as the alto soloist in Bach's St. Matthew Passion in a Vienna performance. That launched her concert and Lieder career, which has taken place largely in Europe, though she made her United States debut in 1967 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She also made her opera debut the same year as Mercedes in Bizet's Carmen and since then has appeared, primarily with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, in various Baroque and Classical operas. In 1989, she returned to Stuttgart as a professor. Guido Reni (1575 - 1642) was an Italian painter of high-Baroque style. Born in Bologna into a family of musicians, Guido Reni was the son of Daniele Reni and Ginevra de Pozzi. As a child of nine, he ...

  • Portrait: Scott Nickerson: Artist/Instructor Tinton Falls resident, artist and Red Bank instructor Scott Nickerson said it was visions of Wilson Hall from a car window that intrigued and enchanted him. "Whenever I drove past it," he said. "I'd think about how great it would be to paint it or use it as a backdrop. So I'd mention that I'd love to get in there and use it for my work." Nickerson, who teaches art at Colorest Studios in Red Bank, was fortunate, or Monmouth University was, that one of his students, Vaune Peck, was also an employee of the school. Peck helped Nickerson connect the dots and the artist was soon on-board to create a body of work for a Visions of Wilson Hall show. Interestingly - or perhaps understandably - at the same time Nickerson was musing about painting the place, another Jersey resident, Timothy W. Jahn of East Brunswick was also inquiring. The two artists were granted access to the grounds and the halls and stairwells and the roof and everywhere they needed and wanted to go to capture the space on canvas. The university even granted the two men time in Wilson Hall, after-hours. Nickerson admitted that the size, silence and maze-like dark hallways and staircases were a bit intimidating when darkness fell. "It was spooky getting around this place," he said. "Imagine being the only person in this huge, old mansion late at night. Your imagination takes over." Apparently inspiration takes over as well. Nickerson's Wilson Hall paintings are beautiful, sprawling and even photo-accurate, with ...

  • Julia Hamari & Peter Schreier GF Handel "Giulio Cesare" Act1 Cornelia&Sesto "Son nata a lagrimar" Julia Hamari & Peter Schreier GF Handel "Giulio Cesare" Act1 Cornelia & Sesto "Son nata a lagrimar" Julia Hamari - Cornelia Peter Schreier - Sesto Karl Richter - Conductor Recording - April 1969 Paintings - Guido Reni (1, 2 & 4) & Guido Cagnacci (3, 5 & 6) -Special thanks to andrea585ny for her continuous support. Guido Reni (1575 - 1642) was an Italian painter of high-Baroque style. Born in Bologna into a family of musicians, Guido Reni was the son of Daniele Reni and Ginevra de Pozzi. As a child of nine, he was apprenticed under the Bolognese studio of Denis Calvaert. Soon after, he was joined in that studio by Albani and Domenichino. He may also have trained with a painter by the name of Ferrantini. When Reni was about twenty years old, the three Calvaert pupils migrated to the rising rival studio, named Accademia degli Incamminati (Academy of the "newly embarked", or progressives), led by Lodovico Carracci. They went on to form the nucleus of a prolific and successful school of Bolognese painters who followed Annibale Carracci to Rome. Like many other Bolognese painters, Reni's painting was thematic and eclectic in style. Guido Cagnacci (1601 1663) was an Italian painter of the late-Baroque period, belonging to the Forlì painting school and to the Bolognese School. Born in Santarcangelo di Romagna near Rimini, he died in Vienna in 1663. He worked in Rimini from 1627 to 1642. After that, he was in Forlì, where absorbed the lesson of the Melozzo's painting. Prior to ...
