  • Scotland Tonight - Nessie hunter claims monster picture is a fake Loch Ness monster hunter Steve Feltham believes hoaxes are bad for his hunt for the elusive beast. He has disputed claims a recent picture of the mythical creature is real. He believes the photo, taken by a local tour guide, is of a fibreglass "monster" used in a documentary. Instead of being pleased with the publicity, Mr Feltham thinks hoaxes are bad for his hunt. On Wednesday's edition of Scotland Tonight he said: "It's a ridiculous theory to say any publicity is good publicity. I'm trying to expose the good bits of evidence for the Loch Ness Monster. I'm here to solve this world class mystery." Mr Feltham said the best piece of evidence so far was a sonar image taken last year of an object deep below the surface of Loch Ness. He said: "That's the best bit of evidence I have seen to date. On it's own it's not hard evidence but it's evidence there's something unexplained in the deep waters of Loch Ness."

  • Scotland Tonight - Where next for Rangers and SPL? Much has been written in the last few years about whether Scottish football can survive without the Old Firm. Now that is a very real possibility with Rangers potentially being forced to play in the lowest tier of league football if SPL clubs decide to vote them out, or if the SFA suspends their license. Would a Premier League without Rangers be a story of empty stadiums and dwindling TV revenues, or could it open up a stifled competition -- and perhaps even be the Glasgow club's redemption? Football fans want Rangers out of the SPL. A ScotPulse poll for Scotland Tonight shows nearly 70% believe a 'newco' club has no place in the top flight. Rangers fans themselves disagree - at least most of them. Nearly a quarter support demotion. Dundee United are one of the dozen SPL sides who will vote on Rangers future. Chairman Stephen Thompson said: "We are at a major crossroads for Scottish football, and significantly the future of all of many clubs." Aberdeen are another, and the club appears to be weighing up its options very carefully. In a statement, Pittodrie's Chief Executive Duncan Fraser said: "The integrity of sport in general, and football in particular, must be central to any decision." Former Celtic director Michael Kelly said he sympathised with Rangers fans. He said: "Old Firm games are the best games of the season, and I go back to the final in 1950 when Celtic won. So I think for me and most fans, Celtic fans, we should want Rangers to be there, otherwise ...

  • Abandoned Theme Park - Scotland This was a real fun explore, something totally different! My mum and dad took me and my brother here in about 1996 so it was kind of weird seeing it, although I can only remember some of it. There was more rides behind a big locked wall we couldn't get in, but we got asked to leave so maybe another day. Music: Kevin Macleod, Imformation from Wikipedia: The park opened in 1995, and closed at the end of the 2010 season. The park's mascot was Rory the Lion. The park was opened in 1995 by a company based in London and has since been through the hands of showman Raymond Codona to its current owner, Henk Bembom's Parkware Ltd. Bembom took over the park in 2002 and invested £5m during his first year there, followed by an additional £2m in the second.[1] Bembom continued to bring new rides and attractions to the park each year, including another £2m worth of investment in 2007.[2] In winter 2006, Parkware moved all their operations and ride stock to Loudoun from their previous storage buildings in Margate. On 15 July 2007, 18-year-old ride operator Mark Blackwood died after falling 80 feet (24 m) from a rollercoaster he was pushing, which had got stuck. He was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock for treatment but died there on Monday 16 July 2007. After a two-week trial, the jury found the park owners not guilty of failing to provide proper training and supervision at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Saturday 10 October 2009. In September 2010 it was announced ...

  • The True Story: Robert the Bruce - Scotland's Hero In the struggle for independence over the English, Robert the Bruce was the strategic and passionate patriot King of Scotland that grabbed his axe and fought against the English for the freedom of Scotland. Behind him marched thousands of Scottish patriots. He was the leader Scotland deserved and needed. I wanted to make this documentary about King Robert I the Bruce of Scotland, because after the release of Mel Gibson's Braveheart movie, his name has been dramatically weakened as many took for a fact everything that was displayed in the movie. However, although a beautiful film about William Wallace, it his highly suggestive and historically inacurrate at some points. For example, Wallace never invaded England and captured York. Also, most importantly, Robert never betrayed Wallace. Robert simply stayed quiet during his rebellion because he argued that political power and recognition from other Kingdoms was necissary to truly establish Scotland as a Kingdom again. Braveheart displays Robert as a weak, uncertain and flimsy charachter, when in history, he was far from it. This was the man that truly led Scotland to victory. He deserves more honor and fame and its a shame that his name has been covered with dust. **MUSIC** Braveheart's Theme - James Horner (Braveheart OST) Dream of Albion - Jeff van Dyck (Medieval 2 Total War: Britannia OST) Attack On Murron - James Horner (Braveheart OST) Revenge - James Horner (Braveheart OST) Betreyal & Desolation - James Horner ...
  • Scotland Tonight - Where does our love of comic book characters come from? As Scots across the country flock to cinemas to marvel at the latest Batman movie, we discuss whether we are in a golden age of comic book characters taking to the big screen. The Dark Knight Rises is proving to be another box office smash, following on from the successes of its two predecessors in the trilogy, prompting us to look in to the enduring popularity of comics and comic characters. On Scotland Tonight, Scots comic guru John McShane and comic artist Frank Quietly offered their views on the subject. John said: "Batman kept going becuase they kept reinventing it. The batman of adam west is nothign like the batman we ahve now which is a lot darker. They brought in talents from Britain who added a different approach to it. "John Wagner and Adam Grant created one of the new villans, Scarface who has really caught on in the batman legend so they have allowed other people to paly with their toys." Frank said: "I think technology is catching up with what can happen in comic books because when you draw or write comic books there's no budget, there's no special effects limitations. "Superhero movies in the past were limtied by what could be achieved technically and now with the advances in digital techniques it's becoming easier and easier to recreate whats happening in comic books on the big screen."

  • Abandoned Primary School - Scotland New edited version with more footage. I heard this might be getting demolished or turned into some modern ugly flats, so I think it was important to get more footage. Annoying it now has been fitted with an automated voice alarm as you can hear which is probably quite good for any one breaking in trying to steal or set fire, security seem quite fast response as there was a van parked outside just in time for us getting to hell away. So apologies for shaky footage as it was impossible to spend any length of time so I ran round the building asoon as the alarm went off to get as much footage as possible
  • Scotland Tonight - Two proposed referendum questions Both sides of the debate into Scottish independence have now said what they would like the question on the referendum ballot to say. The Scottish Government want to ask people "do you agree that Scotland should become an independent country?" On Wednesday, Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats said they would like the question to be "Scotland should become an independent state: I agree/I do not agree." Both may seem quite similar but Mark Diffley from market research company Ipsos Mori Scotland explained the difference on Scotland Tonight. He said: "There are two questions on the table from both sides of this debate. A lot of people seem to be saying this new question is little different from the Scottish Government's preferred question but there are two interesting differences that stand out for me. "The first is it's interesting and significant to note what isn't in the question. There's a lack of emotive language like 'splitting up' or 'breaking up', even the term 'United Kingdom' isn't in it at all. "Secondly, it isn't a yes or no; it doesn't pose a statement and ask 'do you agree'. It poses a statement and asks for you do decide if you agree or don't agree."

  • Scotland Tonight - World's most powerful women Forbes magazine has published its annual list of the world's 100 most powerful women. The top spot was given to German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The list also contains 19 other politicians, 25 chief executives ten celebrities and 11 billionaires. Former Apprentice contestant Laura Hogg, former MP Pauline McNeill and showbiz journalist Beverley Lyons discussed the list on Scotland Tonight. They all agreed it was important to have strong role models but more could be done for gender equality.
  • Scotland Tonight - Unemployable Youth More than 80% of school leavers applying for apprenticeships are "unemployable" and some college courses are so bad they amount to "state-sponsored babysitting". These damning conclusions from the motoring giant Arnold Clark have been met with an angry reaction from MSPs who accuse the firm of absurd 'youth-bashing'. In a written submission to a Holyrood job summit, the firm's training arm, GTG said 81% of applicants to its entry level jobs were "unsuitable for any employment. Of the 2280 applications it received last year, more than 1800 were rejected. Just 121 made the grade. It comes on the same day, researchers warned Scotland's creating a generation of screen addicts. Ten to eleven year year olds spend more than six hours a day on computers, smartphones and TV, getting short term entertainment highs, leading to long term health and job prospect lows. Discussing the issues on Scotland Tonight were the Scottish Government's Youth Employment minister Angela Constance; the chief executive of Scottish engineering Peter Hughes; the General Secretary of the EIS teaching union Larry Flanagan and Colin Borland from the Federation of Small Businesses.
  • Scotland Tonight - Scotland could one day 'produce a sprinter as fast as Usain Bolt' Scotland could one day produce its very own sprinter to run as fast Usain Bolt, according to a sports scientist. The 25-year-old Jamaican made history on Thursday night when he successfully defended his Olympic 200m gold medal at London 2012, having done the same with his 100m title. On Scotland Tonight, sports scientist Dr Niall McFarlane and former Olympic 400m runner Brian Whittle discussed the achievements of Bolt. Asked whether Scotland could produce an athlete of that quality, Dr McFarlane stated there was no barrier to it happening. He said: "There's no scientific reason why someone from Glasgow cannot become the Olympic 100m champion, there's no reason why they couldn't run sub-9.5 seconds. "The problem is it's the quality of the training. It's much easier to train at speed when you're in the sunshine of Jamaica." Mr Whittle added: "I've often said there's kids running about in the streets that can do that we just need to go out and find them." He also said he felt Bolt's win at Olympic Park as "without question" the greatest in athletics. Dr McFarlane rejected claims that the sprinter's 6ft 5in frame should prevent him from running as quickly as he does, stating that the size of stride it gives him sets him apart from smaller competitors, like countryman Yohan Blake who picked up silver in the 200m.
