Sitcom "Girlfriends" Cancelled - Let's Save It The sitcom "Girlfriends" has been cancelled as of 2/11/08. Without notification or even a series finale, the show has been pulled off the air. Girlfriends is one of the few African-American sitcoms that has lasted so long on television. Not only is it well written and funny, but it relays important messages to the community. This show is very much needed and appreciated. We feel that as fans we were robbed of something that we value and treasure. This show has lasted 8 years and it is not fair to the fans to end it so abruptly. We hope for another season, but if that is not possible at this point, we at least deserve a proper series finale.

The show centred on fictionalised versions of Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun, who live together in suburban bliss, until the day their lives are turned upside-down by their new neighbours, Arny and Rosa Goldenstein, who are Jewish. The show's plot is inevitably centered on Hitler's inability to get along with his neighbours. A caption at the beginning of the episode presented the series as a 'lost' sitcom from the 50s, recently re-discovered. The show spoofed elements of 1950s and 1960s American sitcoms such as Leave It to Beaver and I Love Lucy, including the corny title, light (even vacuous) plots and dialogue, and unwarranted applause whenever a character appeared on screen.
