  • Mill Creek Vineyards and Winery, Sonoma County Wine Tasting Room Mill Creek Vineyards and Winery - Grape to Bottle, All in One Place Mill Creek Vineyards and Winery, located in the southern end of Dry Creek Valley, has been in the Kreck family for three generations. The family moved to the area in 1965 and opened it's winery in 1974. The Tasting room, modeled after Wood Mills found in the area at the turn of the century, opened in 1982. The winery has been a small family operation from the beginning and one of the things they pride themselves on most, is the efficiency with which they produce their wine. All in one place the grape is grown, harvested, crushed, aged, bottled, sipped and sold. It's a very sustainable process and the integrity of the final product remains within their reach, and their control. Mill Creek Winery has won some of the most prestigious awards including Sonoma County Harvest Fair's coveted Sweepstakes award. They were also one of the first producers to bring you varietal Merlot! The winery and tasting room sit on a knoll with sweeping panoramic views of Fitch Mountain, Mount St. Helena, Geyser Peak and the every changing vineyards that surround them. They have abundant picnic areas from which to basque in the beauty, the history, the memories.. and of course, the wine!
  • Jarenina In Your Pocket - Dveri Pax Vineyard Since undergoing major renovations and expansion in 2007, the Dveri Pax winery has been collecting London Decanter and other prestigious international awards like they were Pez dispensers. As with most of the vineyards in the Štajerska region, they produce a full range of white wines including Riesling, Traminec and, our personal favourite, the autochthonous Šipon variety, as well as several reds. Wine aside, the property itself is worth a visit. Hidden away amongst the green hills 20km north of Maribor, a 200 year-old farmhouse serves as the main production facility, while a former Benedictine monastery dating back to 1139 hosts group wine tastings, events and even a small museum. Plans are also afoot to convert the upper floor to guest rooms. For more on Maribor and the local vineyards check out Maribor In Your Pocket http

  • Seghesio Family Vineyards - Sonoma County Wine Tasting Room Seghesio Family Vineyards - Wonderful Service and Wines to Match Have you ever been somewhere that you are just so moved by the customer service and genuine care that you just can't stop talking about it? That's how we were after several visits to Seghesio Family Vineyards. Every time we left we couldn't stop talking about what a great experience it was! Warm, authentic, gracious, fun, informative and scrumptious - these are the words I use to describe this longtime, Sonoma wine growing, Family Winery. The Seghesio family name began with Edoardo Seghesio (a transplant from Piedmont, Italy) and his wife Angela, back in 1895 when they planted their first Zinfandel vineyard on some of the current 400 acres in Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River Valley's - now cultivated by the fourth generation winemakers of the Seghesio family. There story is rich in both local and family history and beckons back to time when rolling up your shirt sleeves and jumping in with your whole heart, was the only way to make one's dream reality. And from what I see, this ethic is still the operating philosophy behind the modern day Seghesio Family Vineyard. It is a strong and devoted family at it's core (most of them still work at the winery) yet they have this wonderful ability to create an extended family, to such a degree that it is hard to know the difference, in both their staff and the visitors who walk through their doors. Seghesio is best known for their award winning Zinfandels, but ...
  • Gary Farrell Vineyards - A Contemporary Experience Gary Farrell Vineyards, located in the heart of the Russian River Valley, is a contemporary experience. From the moment you drive past the custom iron gates emulating the vineyard landscape, to the modern building which houses the hill top tasting room overlooking the valleys below, to the state-of-the-art crushing and fermentation facility, to the elegant wines in the glass - you feel as though you reside in this perfect moment-in-time, where harmony and clarity are finally available. Gary Farrell was a Pioneer in the making of Pinot Noir and helped to popularize this now favorite grape. Pinot Noir represents over 50% of the production at Gary Farrell Vineyards where the cool breezes and fog from the Pacific Ocean allow for a slow, even ripening of the fruit while preserving the natural acidity. Rich, dark fruit with earthy overtones is a great way to describe these wines. Other wines well known to the Gary Ferrall family include Russian River Chardonnay and Dry Creek Valley Zinfandels. Single Vineyard wines and Appellation Designates are a speciality at Gary Farrell Vineyards where they maintain a total commitment to detail from Grape to Glass.........and it shows!

  • Black Ankle Vineyards - Maryland One of the promising discoveries during our 2007 trip to visit some Mid-Atlantic wineries was Black Ankle Vineyards. Founders Ed Boyce and Sarah OHerron decided to look for an alternative careers to Management Consulting, and their fascination with wine, winemaking and viticulture led them in 2001 to actually consider the process of owning and operating their own vineyard and winery. But where? After years of research, the pair decided they could make excellent wine in Maryland. After nearly a year of searching, they found a beautiful 146-acre farm in Frederick County, with 40 acres well suited to grape vines. The farm has all of the things they were looking for: relative altitude, well-drained and low vigor soil, and a mix of different eco-systems. They purchased the property in May of 2002. Beginning in April of 2003, Ed and Sarah planted a mix of red and white grapes, choosing some of their favorite varieties, but also ones known for high quality wine and thought to be most suitable for the Mid-Atlantic climate. Varieties inclluded: Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec. Later they added a small parcel of Pinot Noir, and some Grüner Veltliner, Albariño, Viognier, and the ubiquitous Chardonnay. They also made a decision to farm with the principles of Biodynamics, the original Organic farming movement which was founded by the Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner in the 1920s. Biodynamics involves working as much as possible by the ...

  • Adams French Vineyards In 1993, billionaire Stephen Adams and his wife Denise were married at a country chapel in St.-Emilion, Bordeauxs historic Right Bank city. This was the beginning of Adams fascination with French culture and wine, a fascination that would cause him to purchase six (and counting) Châteaux in and around St. Emilion. His considerably diverse holdings, amassed over the course of 47 years, include banks, billboards, recreational vehicles, and now wineries and in France, no less. Known collectively as Adams French Vineyards, this gives a whole new meaning to the phrase an American in Paris. Beginning in 2000, Stephen Adams bought Château Lagarosse, in the rolling hills of the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux. He followed this in 2002 with the purchase of Château de Candale in St.-Emilion. Still looking for a flagship winery, he found it in 2004 with the purchase of Château Fonplégade, a 48-acre property located on St.-Emilions limestone plateau, yet needing some TLC. His total renovation of the property, at a cost of $7 million, including large new fermentation tanks, and vineyard improvements. In 2005, he bought Château de Bel-Air in Lalande-de-Pomerol. And, last year, he added Château Roylland in St.-Emilion and Château LEnclos in Pomerol. All along, his strategy always was (and still is) to pay relatively low prices for properties, then upgrade heavily - all under the direction of Michel Rolland. • Boordy Vineyards - Maryland Located in Hydes, Maryland, Boordy Vineyards was founded by Philip and Jocelyn Wagner, who established Marylands first commercial winery in 1945. Boordy is probably best known for introducing new varieties of French hybrid grapevines throughout the United States in the 1930s. Since 1980, Boordy has been owned by the RB Deford family, and is located on their historic 240-acre farm in the Long Green Valley of northeastern Baltimore County. The winery is housed in a 19th century stone barn whose thick walls keep the wine at cellar temperatures throughout the year. Proprietor and winemaker Rob Deford attended UC Davis, but as he put it, there was never any doubt that I would come back here to Maryland to make wine. This was his home. Boordy currently produces 70000 gallons of wine annually. In addition to the three generations of Estate vines, forty acres of grapes are cultivated in the Long Green Valley (Central Piedmont region) and in the Catoctin Mountains of western Maryland. Varieties grown include chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, petit verdot, seyval blanc, and vidal blanc. Boordys winemaker since 1986 has been Tom Burns. Join us as we talk with Rob Deford, and get a glimpse into the history of winemaking in the area.
  • [E] Domaine Duseigneur part 1, farming the vineyards w Frederic Duseigneur *Come on a wine & food tour with us!* --- Interview (part 1) with Domaine Duseigneur (Rhone), Frederic Duseigneur. Domaine Duseigneur is a small family wine producer in the southern Rhone Valley just across the river from Chateauneuf-du-Pape, run by the brothers Frederic and Bernard (they also work with the famous French sommelier Philippe Faure-Brac). Frederic sees himself more as a farmer than a winemaker. The most important thing is what happens in the vineyard, that you have life in the vineyard, healthy vines. There is a big difference between traditional farming and organic farming. Biodynamic farming is one more step, as done at Domaine Duseigneur since many years. In biodynamics they use two preparations 500 which is specially prepared cow manure, diluted in water and sprayed in the vineyards in the autumn; 501, a finely ground powder of quartz. It is also sprayed, but in the spring. This helps the flowering of the vines. At Domaine Duseigneur they also use some further preparations, homeopathic infusions made from plants and herbs, eg nettles, horsetail, thyme, rosemary or other. These help the plants to fight diseases themselves. This is done instead of spraying with chemicals (sulphur or other). In biodynamic farming one is allowed to use both copper and sulphur, but in smaller quantities. These preparations are also believed to help the vines to better survive difficult weather (hot, cold, wet etc, that happens in the Rhone Valley). It is ...

  • Bourassa Vineyards Bourassa Vineyards - Expect the Unexpected! Vic Bourassa's roots in the wine business began as a hobby. Prior to becoming a winemaker he was a Real Estate broker with a penchant for making wine. He had the good fortune to have lunch with Robert Mondavi one day back in 1999 and Mondavi got to sample Vic's wines. The good news is, Mondavi polished off an entire bottle - which meant he liked it! It was a bottle of Vic Bourassa's Napa Valley Pinot Noir. Robert Mondavi encouraged Vic to make wine professionally. That day in 1999 was was when Bourassa Vineyards was officially born, although 2001 was when Bourassa Vineyards was formed as a commercial winery. The first wine was the 2001 Harmony3 Bordeaux blend at 425 cases, it sold out quickly at $50.00 per bottle. Bourassa Vineyards handcrafts about 4000 cases per year and focuses on Chardonnay from Russian River, Napa Valley Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon known as Symphony3, Petit Sirah, Merlot, a red blend named Harmopny3 and Cabernet Franc, additionally Bourassa produces a fantastically popular Solera Port. Bourassa Vineyards tasting room is located in a business park, however the tasting room is a private reserve barrel room with beautiful rich furnishings, candelabras, fine stemware, warm lighting, music and an exclusive private tasting of flights of wine with Vic, Kathy, or Efrain in an exquisite ambiance for tasting wine where they take moments and turn them into memories "Our slogan is Celebrate Life and we do it every ...
  • Alexander Valley Vineyards - Sonoma County Wine Tasting Room Take a drive through the Alexander Valley almost any time of year and it isnt difficult to figure out why Harry and Maggie Wetzel fell in love with the area. The property they bought in 1962 that eventually became Alexander Valley Vineyards certainly offered beautiful views. It also offered a lot of history.a century before, Cyrus Alexander, one of the first settlers in the area and the namesake for the valley, had built a ranch and a home on the property Harry and Maggie would eventually purchase from his heirs. On the rolling hills, they planted grapes. They sent their son Hank to school to become a winemaker and in 1975, built a winery. Over the next several decades, Alexander Valley Vineyards grew from a small upstart to a winery that now produces more than 100000 cases. But many things havent changed. The winery is still family owned. In fact its Harry and Maggies children and grandchildren that now run the operation. And most of the wines are still estate grown and bottled—from Chardonnay to Cabernet Sauvignon. Alexander Valley Vineyards is also home to Sin Zin, one of Americas best known Zinfandels. We also continue to adhere to a philosophy that great wines shouldnt cost a fortune. Visit this historic winery any day of the week. The Tasting Room offers complimentary samples of most wines. Tours that include a visit to the newly expanded wine caves are also available by appointment.

  • Raymond Burr Vineyards - Sonoma County Wine Tasting Visiting Raymond Burr Vineyards is a special treat! Legendary Raymond Burr, of the Perry Mason and Ironside fame, along with longtime friend and colleague Robert Benevides, planted their first Cabernet Sauvignon vines in 1986 and bottled their first vintage in 1992. Raymond was only able to taste this vintage from the barrel before his passing but in his wake he left a style, passion and philosophy that is still inherent in the winemaking today. The wines made at Raymond Burr Vineyards - Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc & Chardonnay - along with a very small production of specialized Ports - are said to be very much like the man: big, full of gusto, complex and jubilantly alive. Raymond & Robert both had the aptitude for cultivation in their genes, which is what made them fast friends back in the 1950's when they began to share their mutual passion for the cultivation and hybridization of orchids. This shared hobby grew into a lifelong commercial venture which later became Sea God nurseries. During their time together they were responsible for over 1500 new orchids added to the worldwide catalogue - some of which you can see in when you visit. Today the orchid greenhouses are under the care of both Robert and longtime orchid aficionado Francisco Baptista, and are open for public tours by appointment on Saturdays & Sundays. Visiting Raymond Burr vineyards is a full & rich experience - the history, the orchids, the friendly staff and of course the wines, make it a 'must ...

  • Goats Arrive at Bonny Doon Vineyard's new property San Juan: The Baptist or Take Me to the Water. So, we finally closed on the property in San Juan (deep exhalation of breath) and have begun work on clearing brush (the goats have been a great help), and preparing the land for planting. In case, you missed it, we (Bonny Doon Vineyard, that is) recently purchased a 280-acre parcel in San Juan Bautista - approximately 45 minutes southeast of Santa Cruz in mysterious San Benito County. It is our intention to farm the property as a proper Biodynamic® farm, which is to say a promiscuous or mixed plantation, a poly-culture, and to do so in a truly sustainable fashion - not simply offering empty lip-service to a somewhat squishy, subjective term. Apart from seeking to supply much if not most of our own electrical power to the site, we are hoping to significantly minimize external inputs, relying primarily on the use of animals to enhance the fertility of the land and the health of the plantation. We essay to begin with fruit that is exquisitely balanced and sufficient unto itself, obviating the need for gross manipulation - acidulation, dealcoholization in the winery - all tactics designed to optimize the likelihood of a clear expression of terroir. We plan to plant this vineyard in a thoroughly oldfashioned manner -beginning with hearty and droughttolerant rootstocks, allowing them to establish themselves with minimal irrigation, before field-budding them to drought- and wind-tolerant (costaudor sturdy, the French would say ...

  • Jacuzzi Family Vineyards Art, History, Rare Varietals & Bacchus! Jacuzzi Family Vineyards, located in the Carneros region of Sonoma, is full of spirit and splendor. The 18000 sq. ft. winery opened only two years ago and is an exact replica of the Jacuzzi Family Home in Udine, Italy. The Jacuzzi Family, although they have shared many successes, are best known for the invention of the jacuzzi tub that has thankfully become a household luxury. As Italian immigrants in the early 1920's the family purchased land in Contra Costa County, California, and planted grapes for the purpose of making wine for 'home consumption' only. Fred Cline, the current proprietor and grandson of Valeriano Jacuzzi, grew up learning the craft of viniculture as a young boy while spending summers at his grandparents farm. The current winery is a tribute to the legacy of this great family and to the traditions they brought with them. The rare Italian wines many of which are only found here include Arneis, Moscato Bianco, Nebbiolo, Lagrein, Barbera and Nero D'Avola to name just a few..... Jacuzzi Family Winery makes a total of 5 whites & 12 reds! Tastings here are complimentary and the visitor can choose any 5 wines from their selection. While here though, be sure to stroll the grounds with your Italian wine and check out the beautiful art collection of Venetian-style glass chandeliers, stained glass, marble sculptures and original murals........Fantastico!
  • Allegro Vineyards - Pennsylvania Located in Brogue, PA., Allegro Winery has the ironic distinction of being located in a dry county (athough Allegro was grandfathered in, the apparent purpose of the county fathers was to keep other wineries from coming locating there). Originally started in 1978 by John and Tim Crouch, a winery was built in 1980, and a tasting room in 1981. Join us as we talk with current owner/winemaker Carl Helrich about his old vine Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, planted in 1973, and the challenges of growing wine in humid conditions. The challenge here is that the mid-Atlantic climate is quite humid, making the grapes stay warmer through a shorter growing cycle. This gives the vines about triple the susceptibility to plant disease, and its not uncommon for vineyards to get sprayed 15 or more times during the season against various types of rot. European-styled is the best way to describe the wines here, with good acids and slightly lean fruit. Priced from $12-25, Carl bottles most as varietals: Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chambourcin, and Merlot - mostly from Estate or local vineyards. We also find the ubiquitous sweet/seasonal wines here as well, though Carl frankly admits that sales of the party wines are what subsidizes his love for and ability to work with vitis vinifera.
